Savina was raised in Chachin, Kandor and has an identical twin sister named Kavina. The girls are daughters of a Warder and Aes Sedai pair (Jezz and Valaur) It was decided thatthe twins would be sent to the White Tower whether they could channel or not.  As a result, they began receiving their scholastic training at an early age.  Other than their significant parentage they've lead a sheltered life.

Though their father insisted on getting them both short swords, he rarely and reluctantly taught them much formally instead hoping that they would someday channel like their mother.  When their father died recently, they were instructed to spend the year in mourning before traveling to the White Tower.  Though they were told they would never channel, they had both been tested, but perhaps they could become adept at the sword instead.

However the twins decided that they were tired of being in mourning and they were going to do something about it. It didn't take long for the girls to come to an agreement.  The Blight had killed him, and their Uncle (who actually was another of Jezz's warders, named Benoit) and they be damned if they would remain stagnant for a year.  

Uncle Benoit saw fit to teach the girls archery.  It was more ladylike in his eyes than swordplay and still very effective defensively if they ever did venture out against their better judgements into danger or to help with defense against the Blight.

Savina didn't require a lot of convincing to leave, she was quite done with the mourning period.  Why should they sit and mourn, wasting away for the sake of what is proper?  Their father would not have sat so long as they had, nor would their Uncle, it is good for them to travel to the Tower, to learn.   And there are adventures to be had along the way.  It wasn't until she had arrived in Tar Valon with her twin that they had voiced second thoughts.  

Did they really want to go to the Tower and train?  They'd be under their mother's watchful eye -constantly-.  Caemlyn was decided to be their next destination, accompanied by a Sister of the Green (Denee) the same Ajah as their mother, but the Green's warder (Kaden) accepted the twins as students for the time being.
