An Eventful Spring Day in the Yard

With the season of spring settling into the Tower one would think that more would be out enjoying the lack of snow and cold, however this seems to be quite the opposite.  Aalaryn, having always been contrary to popular practices, is out for a walk and of all places in the Training  Yards which seem to be surprisingly quiet today.  [Aalaryn]

Standing... or rather leaning on his pike is a young guard.  He is leaning of course because he is dozing off.  The warm weather having allowed him to doze fitfully, he leans on his pike his head bobbing slowly jerking back up again and again, as an undainty snort sometimes causes a larger jerk of his head.  He appears to just be stationed in the yard, probably ordered by one of his commanders to give him character or some such.  [Derosian]

Aalaryn's steps slow as she spies the young guardsman, dozing in the sun.  As a Novice she too had times when she'd doze off when supposed to be at task studying or weeding in the gardens.  She approaches, not going out of her way to be silent or exactly loud - she doesn't want to startle him.

A snort, and the sounds of approaching footfalls causes a larger jerk than normal, and he suddenly looks up with wide-eyed panic hand reaching to the empty sheath at his side.  He calms down a moment later eyes going to the Aes Sedai approaching him, he stiffens then salutes when she comes close to him.  He startes to breathe deeply but his eyes betray a small amount of fear, as he looks up and to the side while still saluting.  [Derosian]

Aalaryn lifts her hands to show that she is unarmed.  "It's alright, I am sorry if I startled you."  The Red glances around the yard - yep, still virtually empty.  "I think you're in the clear.  I'm not one to report the occasional exercise in... awareness training."

Derosian glances to her face as she speaks then inadvertantly downward, then abruptly to the ground as he realizes where he was glancing for a moment.  As she continues speaking though a smile trembles on his lips at her words. "Yes, ma- Sedai." He says trying more sucessfully now to keep a smile from his face.  "Awareness training indeed Sedai.  Do you have need of me Sedai?"

For being a Red Sister, she's surprisingly.. nice?  "Oh, no child, I have no tasks for you, I just needed to get out in the fresh air.  Winters in the south seem to be harsher than in Arafel, perhaps it's the added moisture."  Aalaryn shrugs slightly, dismissing the thought.  "I have always wondered, what is training like for the men here in the Tower?"  What?  [Aalaryn]

Derosian relaxes noticably at her amicable tone, and he leans once again on the pike apparently forgetting he is supposed to be at attention while answering her question.  "It ain't like back home on da farm.  Dere we would always have a reason for something, up early ta milk cows up early to hoe da ground, we're doing things for a purpose."  He blinks and seems to realize he is still talking to Sedai, his accent becomes more proper, as if she might take offense, his words more pronounced.  "The training here is training for the sake of training.  Running around in a circle for the sake of being able to run further, swinging a weapon to swing it better it all seems to be circles.  To be honest when I came here hoping to be Gaid- erh a guard, I didn't realize it would be so much work, I had seen hunters come by from time to time and they made being able to fight seem so easy."  He frowns off into the distance, scuffing the tip of his boot into the dirt in an absent minded way.  "Just different from expectations is all."

Aalaryn nods slowly.  "I know that the Instructors tend to," she pauses as if searching for the right word, "strive to stretch comfort levels in training.  The life of a Guard or a Gaidin relies on physicality, or so I understand.  Have you had much time to study in the Library?  You're entitled to an education as well, you know."

Derosian shakes his and then frowns.  "Not much, there was a brown though heard me talking once dragged me away by my ear and sat me down for hours, I swear. Just made me repeat what I was saying over and over again till it sounded like she wanted, then she almost let me go but found out..."  He blushes a little, showing some emberrasment as he looks about.  "She found out I could barely read."  He whispers.  "I didn't know to be a guard I would have to read, so I spent another hour or two in there going over my 'ahs' and 'bs' and such until she let me go saying she wasn't done with me.  "  He breathes out heavily.  "Was right scared with my head spinning by the end of the whole thing."

Aalaryn chuckles politely.  "Yes, the Browns and their love of the written and spoken word," a reassuring smile forms upon her lips, "oh, do not be embarrassed.  Everyone has the option to study in the Library and learn anything you wish."  She gestures to the pike, "Is that very heavy or is it just awkward to hold?"

Derosian looks at the pike with surprise as if seeing it for the first time.  Then holds it up right awkwardly still leaning on it, then seemingly realizing his error he stands up straight as well.  "A lot heavier than a piece of wood from back home, it is.  Also a bit unbalanced, and the head-"  He brings the pike back placing the head within reach as he reaches up and grabbing it firmly shows that it wiggles slightly.  " you see?"  He stands the pike back up.  "But I'm new so I get the the worst of it.  Eventually they might even give me my sword back."  He looks longingly at it.  "I accidentally hurt someone with it and now they only let me use the practice swords, they say till I learn better."

Aalaryn inclines her head slightly in curiosity as the young man explains the pike and the loss of his own personal weapon.  The wiggle in the pike is evident but she's not certain how to go about repairing it, or even where the others are kept.  "I have seen what live steel does to a body on the yard, practice lathes are much safer, at least they don't have the ability to remove limbs as easily.  I'm certain once you advance in your training that your personal sword will be returned."

Derosian frowns slightly at her words.  "It was just what I was issued, I had a few things from home."  He starts wistfully.  "But I lost them."  He doesn't lie very well and it shows, and seemingly he thinks better of it.  "They were stolen, I was a livin with me ma and pa you see on a farm, me ma she was always telling stories see of Gaidan and Sedai doing this and that and what have yous, and I was getting tired of me pa beaten me every time he came home drunk see."  He splurts out the story as if its the first time he has spoken of it and it seems to have a cathartic effect on him.  "And so I was on the road with me pack near the outside of Valon see, and I stopped for a rest cause I'd been walking so long, when I came to me burlap with me things were gone."  He finally takes a visible breathe in and sighs.  "Sorry missum you remind me a little of- erh well noneofthat."  He takes another breathe and sigh.  "Didn't mean to unload like that, I know being Sedai you have bigger things than hearing a hoe hand like me go on and on."

The Red steps closer to Derosian and gently rests her hand on his shoulder, patting him reassuringly. "No, you've no need to apologize, sometimes these things need to come out, to be released."  She steps back, not wanting to invade his space.  "Letting things go, such as your pack being stolen, can help in personal growth, and that you shared it with someone you barely know shows a great deal of trust."  [Aalaryn]

Kaden walks into the Practice Yard from the direction of the library carrying two large leatherbound books and a folio of loose papers. Any who had seen him when he first arrived at the Tower can see that his stride has taken on some of the smoothness of those who train with a sword. He is far enough away from the pair already speaking in the Yard that he has not intruded on their conversation but he does nod politely to them if they should look in his direction.

Meandering along the path and obviously lost in thought, a Green sister passes the training yards when her gaze shifts to watch the various circles of bout happening, or in some cases a Red sister talking to a trainee. The thought of it nearly slips past her concious thought, when she takes a double take. A *Red* sister talking to a trainee. Shrugging slender shoulders, she slowly makes a bee-line toward the gathering, more of curiosity than any particular interest.   [Jezz]

Derosian eyes gleam slightly as he nods to the Sedai actually looking her in the eyes for once, his face reflecting newfound trust.  He bites his lip holding back a tearful smile at her words.  "As you say Sedia."  He says, then noticing someone else entering the yard through the entrance he is near he stands straighter, and returns the nod from Kaden, his eyes looking curiously at the books in his hands.  "Ah, Sedia.  I should have introduced myself, I'm Derosian, I am.  Strange name I know, me pa said me ma had her head in the clouds when she named me."

Aalaryn gestures to herself, "Aalaryn Sedai, it is a pleasure to meet you Derosian."  As the trainee's attention are drawn away the Red looks in the same direction.  New people!  A trainee with large books, okay that's new, and a Green Sister.  It must be the weather making the Red so social and cheerful, usually they all look as if they just tasted a lemon.

Kaden carefully places the books and folio on a bench near one of the currently unused training circles and selects a practice sword from one of the practice racks. Not a bundle of lathes, this sword is a carved piece of wood with a heavy lead core, made to make arms burn. Kaden walks to the center of the circle, his gait smoothing even further as he twirls the blade to loosen his wrist. When he stands at the center he closes his eyes, breathing in and out steadily before he starts to move slowly. His feet slide acrss the hard-packed earth as the blade rises and falls fluidly, sweeping and turning.

Jezz offers a faint smile toward the Red, though noticing the smile from Aalaryn, its tough not to smile in kind. "Sister, I did not mean to intrude." She nods to the other woman, then moves away slightly to watch Kaden. Though seeming to watch, however, her thoughts wander away from her as by-gones intrude.

Derosian smiles at Aalaryn Sedia and nods his head as she gives him her name.  He sees her look around, and joins her in looking around the yard.  His eyes fall upon Kaden moving about his face reflecting a bit of envy at the way he moves about so smoothly.  Before shaking his head a little and attempting to stand more rigid as the other Sedai walks up to them.  His eyes return back to Kaden as it seems all eyes are on him.  "Like a bloody water bird he is."  He says under his breath, heatedly but without malice.

"No intrusion at all, Sister," Aalaryn replies to the Green.  "The weather was just too inviting to remain in for long," noting that Kaden is approaching the training circle she looks to Derosian, "Perhaps you would enjoy being active instead of guarding the pike?"  She seems to understand the boredom of staying put in one place.  [Aalaryn]

Derosian looks surprised at the Aalaryn before nodding with a small smile and propping his pike against the wall he jogs out to the main training circle to look over the practice swords.

Kaden stops for a moment and straightens, unaware of the attention now on him. He swings the blade back and forth again, further warming up his muscles before again taking a stance n the middle of the circle, again closing his eyes and breathing deeply in and out. When he starts to move this time it is with a much higher tempo, the heavy practice blade cutting the air with authority. The forms are less smooth this time as Kaden struggles to control the sword, to keep it in the proper position for each movement, to keep himself balanced.

Derosian picks up an another heavy sparring sword but not without showing a little strain.  He places it in both hands not too awkwardly before walking out to the training circle near Kaden whom he looks toward as neutrally as he can.  He keeps himself back so as not to get struck by an unwary strike, while he seems to wait for a break in Kaden's actions before speaking up.

Drawing out of her reverie, Jezz glances over toward Aalaryn, "Ahh, yes, the weather has been kind to us lately." She motions for the other sister, now that the other woman's conversational partner has moved on to the training circle. "Strange seeing a Red sister wandering the training grounds. I thought you lot didn't like men, unless they could channel." By the twinkle in her gaze and the inflection of her voice, she is obviously teasing the other women.  [Jezz]

Aalaryn turns to stand nearer to the Green.  That's a first a Red and a Green Sister within such a close proximity.  She pauses for a moment before answering, the Green has a point, it -is- odd for a Red to be here.  "Oh quite the contrary, I do like men.  It is just been that our focus has been upon men who weild Saidin of late.  But there are rumors that," she pauses wondering if it's the place to discuss this but shakes her head slightly and continues, "that Saidin has been cleansed."

Kaden stops his movements as Derosian approaches with one of the heavy practice blades. The young Warder trainee strightens, not even breathing hard, and nods to the other young man. "Hello there. I don't think we've met. I'm Kaden." With a smile Kadens starts to swing the sword around, twirling it and shifting it from hand to hand to keep his wrists and shoulders loose.

Derosian nods back towards the trainee.  "Haven't met, seen you around though names Derosian.  Was wondering if you wouldn't mind practicing with me a bit."  He says gesturing loosely with his practice blade.

"I thought that merely a rumor. Wishful thinking, as it were." Jezz replies, glancing at the other Aes Sedai, "If its not prying, though, what will the Red Ajah do if its true?" She asks wonderingly. She shifts, hands clasping behind her as she glances back towards the young trainees in introduction. Maybe they would beat each other senseless with lathes.   [Jezz]

"To be honest, I do not know."  Aalaryn really doesn't know what the Ajah would do as a whole.  "For many years, our sole purpose was to find and heal men who could channel, if it is true and Saidin is cleansed.." she lifts her shoulders in a faint shrug, "I would personally like to return to our original purpose."  [Aalaryn]

Kaden nods, "Would you like to work forms or spar?" He gestures toward Derosian's practice weapon with his own, "If it is a spar you want lets switch to the lathes. There are Sisters here who would likely heal us, but a broken bone hurts all the same. Besides, they may not just to teach us a lesson about foolishness." Kaden ends the statement with a michevious smirk.

Derosian looks down at this practice sword, then back up at Kaden.  "We could do forms, I... I don't think you would get much practice in if we sparred."  He says his face showing his consternation at having to admit as much.

Jezz has to think for a long moment to recall what the Red Ajah did prior to finding men who could channel. Frowning, she glances to the Red sister, then back to the boys, "Oh!" she nods then, "Sorry, that particular history course was so long ago." Jezz apologizes with a small shake of her head. Nor does she keep up with what the Red Ajah does, or did, in this case.

Aalaryn chuckles politely.  "It is understandable, after all our Ajahs are quite different, each holding different ideas and passions."  For the first time she's speaking to a Green and not getting the evil eye.

Or giving the evil eye. Perhaps there is something to this communication thing afterall. "True." She gives the other woman a sideways glance, "Were you with the previous Amyrlin's administration or loyalties?" Referring to Elaida without outright saying that horrible wenches' name. "Though you dont seem the type that associated with that bunch."   [Jezz]

Derosian nods away to Kaden as he is called over by a commanding officer.  Hearing his voice he jumps a little, before putting the practice blade away and standing at attention before the officer who gives him a tongue-lashing.  Then he follows behind the officer as he walks away quickly, trying to keep pace.  He gives one wistful look behind at Kaden as trots away.

Aalaryn shakes her head causing the tiny bells sewn to her ribbon to tink softly.  "No.. Elaida was a little," the Red purses her lips before adding, "I do not like to speak about those who are not here to defend themself but she was more than just a little off her rocker."  Bloody insane is likely what she meant to say however she keeps her tongue in check.

Aalaryn offers Derosian a small smile before he's pulled away by an instructor.  Poor lad.

Kaden winces as Derosian is dressed-down by the officer, giving the other young man a wave and sympathetic smile as he is led away. Once the pikeman has left the Yard Kaden walks back to the center of the circle and resumes his stance, closing his eyes for a moment while he breathes deeply in and out.

Stifling a giggle with a hand touching her lips, Jezz nods. She knew of Elaida, but spent a good many years away from the Tower. As Derosian is getting dressed down, her expression changes to sympathy, but then shakes her head slightly. Mighta done something. Get chewed out now saves one from serious injury later. "At least she is somewhere where she wont cause any more trouble, yes?"  [Jezz]

A laugh actually breaks forth from her lips.  "Yes, thank the Light!"  Aalaryn recalls all too well the insanity that was brought about under Elaida's reign.  "Did you know she actually ordered me out of the Tower because I did not agree with her banishment of the Blue Ajah?"  [Aalaryn]

Kaden begins to move again, form flowing to form though, again, the weight of the practice blade seems to be giving him trouble as it slashes through the air. The young man seems to have taken well to his sword training.

Grinning with another shake of her head, "Oh dear, I'm entirely to happy that I was not here for any of that insanity." She continues to watch Kaden, though she has no formal training herself, she had years of watching her warders practice to know when something doesnt look quite right. She winces. "I've been in Kandor for a better part of two decades. Well, 'cept the last couple years. We went to Murandy, then stopped and remained in Caemlyn for a period."  [Jezz]

Aalaryn has only the knowledge of the use of a dagger, so the forms look right to her.  "How are things in the South?  I've heard rumors of a new Queen of Andor?"

Kaden stops when the blade pulls him too far out of balance. Frustration evident in the set of his shoulders he moves back to the center of the circle and resumes him stance, his breathing loosening those shoulders. When he moves again it is to slowly repeat the form that threw him off, he then does it again and again, each time a little faster. As he works he moves around the edge of the practice circle though far enough that his heavy lead-cored blade never leaves the perimeter.

Sporting fancy new threads and finally out of plain white, the newly raised Green strolls along the hard packed path. There's a hint of a smile on her full-lipped mouth and her footfalls are graceful and carefully measured. Upon seeing Kaden her glacier blue eyes light, but it is fleeting as she sees two of her sisters standing off to one side. After taking a steadying breath she makes her way in their direction.   [Denee]

"Morgase went missing when I was there. Though I assume her daughter has taken her place by now." Jezz responds quietly, still watching the trainee try to master the form he's practicing. "I'll know more, I'm sure, when I return there. I have some business with an Aiel Wise One, then I intend to come back here." Her verdant gaze slides away from the trainee to the newly raised green, offering the other woman a slight nod in recognition.  [Jezz]

While most Reds would be alarmed at another Green being raised this one regards the new Sister with a smile.  However that smile fades some as she hears that Morgase has gone missing.  "Oh my," Aalaryn's voice holds concern, "I hope the Daughter-Heir is safe."  Then her mind clicks again, the Green mentioned Aiel.  "Aiel?"  [Aalaryn]

Kaden is finally, again, pulled off balance by the heavy practice blade. This time, however, the young trainee seems to not be quite as upset. He twirls the sword a few times as he walks back toward the center of the circle, noticing Denee approaching he can't help a mischevious smile which he quickly covers with a throat-clearing cough.

Denee smiles, nodding to both women, and has to visibly stop herself from cutseying. The shawl is so nee on this one the paint may as well still be drying. After waiting for both to finish speaking, the young Green says, "Light Illume Sisters. I hope I am not intruding.." Glacier blue gaze slides momentarily over to Kaden then, but after a breath she refocuses her attention on Jezz and Aalaryn.

Giving a shrug of her slender shoulders and a sideways glance to Aalaryn, "No idea. I'll know more when I get there." She repeats. With the question regarding the saveages from the East, Jezz smiles with a nod, "Aye, I spent a time with them as well. Been a busy couple years." Incling her head to Denee, she offers the younger woman a smile, "No, you may join us. Just standing here making the trainees uncomfortable with our presense. Not sure if its working yet."  [Jezz]

"You are not interrupting at all," Aalaryn is surprisingly chipper for a Red Sister.  "Time will tell with that," she adds, referring to Jezz's comment.  [Aalaryn]

Denee can't quite hide the smirk that twists her lips after Jezz refers to the trainees, but her face relaxes into a congenial smile while looking between both women. "So nice out today I decided a walk was in order." Eyes easily finding Kaden, the young asks, "How does this one seem to be doing?" An apparently innocent question but her exo

Kaden resumes the center of the circle and takes a different stance, this time the forms he flows through seem defensive in nature, the blade moving in what would be blocks and ripostes while Kaden's feet move him backwards. He seems in much better control of these particular forms though, from time to time the weight of the blade still seems to cause him trouble.

Denee can't quite hide the smirk that twists her lips after Jezz refers to the trainees, but her face relaxes into a congenial smile while looking between both women. "So nice out today I decided a walk was in order." Eyes easily finding Kaden, the young asks, "How does this one seem to be doing?" An apparently innocent question but her expression belays more than idle interest.

Tilting her verdant gaze to the younger Green, a critical eyeing of the woman, then glancing toward the trainee with a deeper understanding than Denee had intended with her innocent question. Narrowing her eyes on Kaden, she watches with a bit more scrutiny than she had been, "He's weak, but the practice will help him develop. He knows the forms, but he has trouble with the speed needed to form them properly. That, too, will come with practice. Anything beyond that, you'll have to ask his instructors. Is he your intended?" Jezz isnt about to minse words, instead taking the direct route.   [Jezz]

Aalaryn knows nothing about the forms, how warders are to be, or anything of that nature so she mostly keeps quiet and listens.

Kaden seems to rise to the challenge of three Aes Sedai watching him, combining offensive with defensive forms, the rythm of his movements is smooth and it seems that in the back and forth he is fighting the sword less, letting the weight of the practice blade carry him from retreat to attack.

Denee blushes though she stubbornly ignores the fact and after tearing her gaze away from the man, her eyes shift to Jezz after an almost apologetic smile to Aalaryn. "He is indeed, but as my first I plan on waiting longer than typically necessary. I will speak to instructor in more detail." At the last she sounds, and looks, as if she'd rather eat rocks or walk barefoot through nettles.

"Well, choosing a green trainee such as he, then yes, you will be waiting awhile. Years even." She tilts her gaze back to Denee for a moment, "But if you have nothing better to do, then by all means." She offers a smile, then strides away toward the weapons wrack, picking up different staves until one has the right weight for her slim form. Moving purposely back to the ring Kaden is in, she stands at the edge with a couple of warm up stretches, but watching him purposely to notice her.   [Jezz]

The look of sheer surprise is evident upon Aalaryn's face as Jezz takes up a staff and moves to join the trainee.  She is a Green after all, it is normal but it's just that she's never seen a Sister spar.  [Aalaryn]

Kaden notices immediately when Jezz walks over to the rack and picks up a staff. His movements become less smooth as he can't keep his eyes from moving toward her as she stretches, obviously intent on entering the ring with him. Finally he stops and bows formally to her, "Aes Sedai." He looks up at her, "Is there something I can do for you?" His eyes flicker to Denee before looking back at Jezz.

"And years" Denee's response is tinged with humor. She too watches Jezz in amazement as she readies herself to fight but after lifting her shoulders into a shrug toward Aalaryn she turns her attention back to the ring, blue eyes shining expectantly.  [Denee]

"You can defend yourself." Jezz replies with an expectant-no-nonsense tone with a short bow. Spinning the staff between each of her hands, the staff whirling in what looks like a tight horizontal eight, Jezz steps forward without ever stopping the whirling until she is only a legnth of staff away when she lunges, jabbing the length of wood to one side of him. It's his warning. "I trained with my warders for years, but I'll never be as good as your instructors. But it never hurts to get a good work out, hmm?" She grins toothily at him.   [Jezz]

For all of his practicing to this point, Kaden is barely breathing hard. As the Sister enters the ring twirling the staff he moves back from her, shooting Denee another glance, but only for the barest instant, his blade is up and at the ready when Jezz lunges, though he does not move to intercept the staff, rather he slides to the side, blade moving to block against an anticipated strike from the opposite end of the staff. Kaden tries to control his breathing, tries to focus. [Kaden]

Denee watches Kaden moreso than Jezz as the pair face off. Her creamy smooth face portaying her excitement, or perhaps worry..both. Wincing yet quickly schooling the reaction, her gaze shifts from one movement to the next while watching avidly. She's not yet mastered the calm cool serenity of her Sisters, and her face looks far too young to be wearing the shawl, the evidence of a most recent testing is quite apparent.

"If you will excuse me.." Aalaryn murmurs softly.  [Aalaryn]

Drawing back, Jezz doesnt try to go for a second strike. Probably more lienent than any of his instructors. Hand over hand, over and under in grip, the staff whirls quickly beating the air in front of her. She begins to pace around him when she partially lunges, striking the staff out to his left in a half arc towards his shoulder. Just as quickly, she shifts her weight arcing the staff to strike with the other end against his right  - fully expecting wood to clash on wood, though it depends on how fast he really is.   [Jezz]

Ragnarr, flagon in hand, ambles aimlessly into the practice yard, gaze sweeping over those about, and flagon sweeping up to his lips.

Kaden again retreats before the probing attacks of the Aes Sedai, his feet sliding smoothly over the hard-packed earth of the Practice Yard as he stays out of her reach. The young trainee seems to settle in as his blade moves defensively. Kaden's voice is slightly distant, "With all respect Aes Sedai, I don't see how this ends any way but badly."

Denee nods at Aalaryn but it's quite clear where, or rather who, her attention is focused upon. Eyes flicking back and forth between opponents she soon starts to unconsciously duck or dip her head. In tune with the attacks. One of her legs even starts to kick out..but she stops herself before it becomes obvious.

"I only asked you to defend yourself." Jezz replies with narrowed gaze, allowing the whirl of wood to slow in her ever moving hands, "Unless you're afraid of a girl hurting you." The Green sister smirks slightly, but the movement of a warder into the area causes her pause, "Eh, there you go, he doesn't look busy." Unless you call drinking busy.  [Jezz]

Ragnarr leans up against a post beside the yard and turns his gaze towards the combatants, the bare hint of a grin flickering over his features, hidden shortly thereafter by the flagon brought to his lips.

Denee stifles a laugh, hiding it behind her hand, her eyes watching Kaden for his reaction. Aftet giving Ragnarr a very fleeting but surprised once-over - the man is drinking for Lights sake, she returns her attention to her sister Green and Kaden.

Ragnarr peers back at Denee imperiously, a loud belch escaping his lips before he wipes off his tangled mass of beard on the back of his hand.   Looking back, he resumes his watch of Jezz and Kaden, frowning with what might be alarm at the woman's words.

Kaden shakes his head, "That isn't my concern Aes Sedai. I will retreat as long as possible but I will either run out of room and get hit or you will manage to hit me in spite of my retreats. In any case it gains neither of us anything." He glances quickly toward Ragnarr but by his stance still seems ready to retreat further should the Sister decide to renew her attack.

Ragnarr frowns and calls out towards Kaden, "Faugh! Strike back already, lad. Right now, you're disobeying an Aes Sedai's orders to hit her. What's the worst that could happen? She could have an unying enemity for you... or well, I suppose she could bond you, that too." He grins happily, lounging against the post that seems to be keeping him upright as much as comfortable.

Aalaryn has returned... with a group of other sedai.  It seems all Ajahs are represented now.  They move to stand on the sidelines, watching the daring Green spar the trainee.

Denee wrinkles her nose. Perhaps the stink from Ragnarr's belch tickling her it. She remains quiet and relatively still while trying to watch all three at once and only partially succeeding as her gaze seems to stray back to Kaden. A small tsk of disapprova is heard. Upon the arrival of more Aes Sedai Denee nods slightly in greeting..that is, if any look her way. New on the totem pole!!

The White Sister sniffs, clearly appalled by Ragnarr's lack of etiquette, and moves further away from him.  The other Sisters do the same.   [Aalaryn]

"Ahh, that is where you are wrong, Kaden." Recalling his name from an earlier meeting. "It gains you practice against an unlikely foe." Jezz replies with a sideways glance towards Ragnarr when he calls out. "Retreating, though, is not defending. You might be hit, this is true. Or you can defned yourself and gain experience. I have no formal training, other than what my warders would teach me, so its possible you might hit me back. But bruises heal." Another toothy grin. Jezz moves forward again, whirling the staff, "Defend." Stepping forward, she lashes out to his left with one end of the staff, then arcing the staff to lash out to his right with the other end and a forward step.    [Jezz]

Ragnarr winks roguishly at one of the sisters amidst the group, the Brown it'd appear, a familiar smile passing his expression as he returns to his watch of the pair.

Sylvia, the Brown returns Ragnarr's expression with a sour frown.  She lifts up a tiny pad and seems to scratch something down.  [Aalaryn]

Aalaryn makes her way over to the Newly Raised Green.  "What did I miss?"

By trying to focus her attention on too many people at once Denee grows frustrated. With a deep breath she shakes her head, clearing some random thought away. At Aalaryn's question, Denee seems almost relieved to answer, "Our Sister is giving a lesson in both combat at logic. Moreso combat." Even as she comments Jezz is attacking again and her attention flicks back to the pair.  [Denee]

Aalaryn nods to Denee's words and as Jezz moves in to attack she too turns her attention to the sparring match.  The other Sisters who have gathered move over to stand near Denee and Aalaryn.

Kaden twirls his heavy, lead-cored, practice sword once and brings it to the ready. His breathing is steady and his expression reluctant but determined, he seems calm and focused. When Jezz attacks, he shifts the blade to block the strike, the staff cracking against the weighty practice blade. When Jezz shifts the center of the staff to bring the backhand blow to his right, the young trainee drops downward, twisting, turning on his right foot as his left leg swings around in a sweep toward Jezz's.

Ragnarr bends down to scoop up a stray rock, peering between it and the sparring pair before leaning back up against the post.

The gathered Sisters - White, Brown, Blue, Gray and Yellow - seem to be quietly conversing among themselves while watching the Green and trainee spar.  The Brown even appears to be taking notes.  It looks like this is one for the books.  [Aalaryn]

"If you will excuse me, Sisters." Denee murmurs while continuing to watch the pair..but mostly Kaden. She steps away from the group and moves closer to the sparring ring, taking special care to avoid going anywhere near Ragnarr and his drink.  [Denee]

Derosian hurries back into the practice yards with a harried expression, wiping his face with a small cloth before looking around.  His eyes alight upon what most in the practice yard are paying attention to, and he says something that doesn't carry far enough for others to hear but looks near enough like a swear.  His eyes touched with fear he hurries around the edge of the training circle and thoughtlessly takes up a training lathe and then leans back against a tree watching the two with rapt attention.

Ragnarr glances towards Derosion, asking, "Bets on who gives in first?"

Aalaryn's eyes are focused upon the sparring match, much like the cadre of Sisters she's standing with.

The first clack of wood against wood revibrates down her arm. She winces, but the expression becomes more determined. It's been months since her last spar (read: years). When he goes down for the leg sweep, Jezz retreats, leg lifting to step back but not nearly fast enough for his counter to skim against her heel. Off balance, she hop-skips a step back with a tap of the staff against the ground to steady her. "Ha! Better!" If he's still crouched, the staff thrusting forward to thrashes out, both hands having slid to one end of the staff. First at his leg, than stepping foward to jab at his chest.  [Jezz]

Derosian swallows looking at the large man before glancing towards the pair, then his eyes dance to a familiar face and small smile touches his lips, before he looks back at the pair sparring.  "I.. I wouldn't know."

Denee's gaze skims over the newcomer as he rushes past her, but dismisses him in an instant as her eyes find Kaden again. She moved to stand near the sparring ring, slender arms lifting to wrap around her chest, standing like the warden as she watches. She winces along with Jezz but otherwise remains still.

Ragnarr grumbles dourly at Derosians answer, respnding, "You start at the beginning. It doesn't matter if you know, you take what you have and you attack. Have all the trainees forgotten this?" The man spits out a mouthful of his drink and fishes out a small carving of a whitecloak star from within the confines of his gear.

Kaden smoothly comes back up to his feet as he finishes the leg sweep, moving forward as his sword sweeps forward, blade to the sky, tip rising from near the ground to push her staff thrust to her right. At the apex of the upward sweep Kaden rolls his wrist and strikes downward, blade blurring with speed as he attacks the Sister's weapon.

Derosian frowns up at the man with a worried look his grip on the sparring sword tightening till his knuckles grow white.  His eyes avoid the other man's face though and he apoligizes with a somewhat confused expression on his face.  "Sorry, sir."  He nods his head lower before edging away from the man just slightly.

The Yellow Sister watches, her eyes trained to notice any injuries as they happen so that she can tend to them straight-away.  [Aalaryn]

Ragnarr mutters even louder at Derosion at the man's apology, "I'm carrying around the symbol of the Children of the Light, lad. Don't apologize. Attack! Blame it on the other guy!" Absently, he lobs his original rock well into the air, aimed loosely in Kaden's direction. He waits to the count of three breaths, watching as the rock rises then begins to fall back towards earth, and only then, in the final moments of the rocks flight, does he hurl the carved block of wood directly at Kaden.

Denee's gaze flick between Jezz and Kaden, brows arching in surprise as a look of pride glints in her eyes. She remains standing with her arms folded beneath her breasts and is hardly paying attention to those around her, so intent does her glacier gaze follow the combatants.

Derosian eyes grow frantic at Ragnarr's actions, his eyes following the rock, and the wood before he raises the sparring sword above him in a clumsy overly large attack.  His face shows fear and frustration, his eyes wide fearful, even his attack is hesitant as if afraid of his own choice.

Ragnarr's bizarre action of throwing a rock at those sparring, spouting something about Children of the Light, and his general demeanor win him a disdainful look from Aalaryn.  For once she appears to be the typical Red, for her expression is that of having just tasted a very sour lemon.  [Aalaryn]

One hand over, the other hand under, Jezz whirls the staff to her right using the momentum of his initial block. She brings the staff deftly back under and around to block his attack with a single retreating step. The rock and then the block of wood distract her, "What the..." what was going to be a forward attack, shifts to a retreating spin, her whole body wheeling away a couple steps. Pausing with the staff loosely held behind her back, she frowns looking for the projectiles.  [Jezz]

Denee catches the movement in the air out of the corner of her eye. She barely has time to react, but then the One Power is as fast as thought. Embracing and weaving in nearly the same breath, the young Green wraps the object spinning loose through the air, skidding it to an abrupt halt, the Air holding it tightly still. Her eyes are wide in surprise as she quickly scans the yard, seeking out the flinger of ..wood.

Aalaryn is literally seconds late when it comes to using the power, though the glow of saidar surrounds her.  The Sisters watching also are holding saidar, the Gray seems to be the least amused and shares Denee's searching for the perpetrator.

Ragnarr roars at Derosion, spittle and words spraying from his lips as the bearish man surges forward, allowing the first foot of the trainee's blade to strike down heavily on his shoulder. His own arms sweep up, whipping his mead flagon around from right to left in a blow meant to clout the left side of Derosion's head. "Yes!! But don't delay! ATTACK! Make your decision, boy, and carry it out to the hilt for good or bad!"

Kaden's heavy practice blade is met with a block that creates a shivering crack of wood on wood. He is about to press in closer when his opponent abrupty retreats and there is a commotion behind him. At that moment the rock drop out of the sky, glancing from the side of his head. The Warder trainee falls into a defensive stance meant to protect from attack in an unexpected direction. Kaden looks about warily, slightly dazed, blood running down onto his temple.

As blood is seen the Yellow moves into the circle and makes a 'come here' motion to Kaden. "Hold."  [Aalaryn]

The first strike made more sound than anything upon the mans shoulder, Derosian's eyes, half closed as he struck, opened afterwards and noticed in horror as a mug flew towards his face.  He didn't dodge it, his face took on a resigned look of one who knows what is coming as he struck across the face with the flagon, his hand lets go of the practice sword and it falls to the ground.  The strike is harsh slamming into his face and he staggers but responds automatically steadying himself, his head and eyes now down prepared for the next blow that would surely come.  His actions seemed practiced as if trained into him.  He doesn't respond to the yelling at all his face downward his posture submissive.  [Derosian]

Denee is glaring at Ragnarr, the bit of wood still floating in the air above Jezz and Kaden. Too close. She doesn't see Kaden fall but at the Yellows announcement she whirls back to stare wide-eyed at him. Clearly too much action for the new Aes Sedai.

The other Aes Sedai have their judgemental expressions on.  [Aalaryn]

Jezz relaxes, allowing the Yellow on hand to tend to the head wound, her verdant gaze going to the block of wood that had not made it to the trainee as it hovers in mid air with the One Power. "Not exactly fair to be flinging debri around, eh." But at that moment she notices the other trainee get a flagon to the face, Jezz's eyes widen. "Alright, that's enough. This isnt a bar room brawl."

Kaden's blade flashes as he begins an attack toward the Yellow Sister who steps into the practice ring toward him. His eyes are slightly unfocused but the heavy, lead-cored blade moves with bone-breaking force.

Denee is watching Kaden so intently is almost as if she can predict his actions. With a short incredulous squeek when he attacks the Yellow, however unknowingly, she flicks her fingers and weaves thick heavy strands of Air to stop the trainee in his tracks. The wood falls to the ground with a barely heard thud. She's peering in confusion at Kaden. "Kaden!! No!!"

Ragnarr Just as suddenly as he flew inot the seeming rage, the bearish drunk pauses, stopping to inspect his flagon for possible dents. A glance towards the other combatants and the floating carving twisting his frown into an even further glum, irritable expression. He gives a glare to the surrounding Aes Sedai, uncertain of the one responsible, and glares heartily between trainee and dropped sparring weapon. Eventually he shoves a hand directly at the man's chest, not hard, but enough to shove him. "Attack. Defend if you must, but don't just sit there lad."

Reaching for Saidar, Jezz, too, was about to channel Air to stop Kaden, but as the younger Green already has it handled, the weave dissipates before its barely begun. She walks forward and slaps Kaden on the shoulder, "Good enough for a drink, but since I don't, drink one for me." She moves out of the ring and toward the weapons rack, dropping the staff into place.   [Jezz]

The Yellow scrambles back seconds after Denee's weave encases Kaden.  Gasps and various exclaimations can be heard from the gathered sisters.  Some of them come to help the Yellow with the trainee while the others, along with Aalaryn, head over to assist the cowering trainee escape the bearlike man.  [Aalaryn]

Derosian accepts the shove with a practiced air falling back just enough for it to appear he lost control, but instead regains his balance and steps back up.  He glances up though confusion on his face, he seems to fight himself his actions slow at the man's words.  His gaze travels up to the mans face for a moment and more confusion appears in Derosian's eyes.  "I'm sorry?"  He says in a befuddled manner.

Kaden shakes his head in confusion as Denee wraps him up in air, knocking his practice sword from his grasp. His eyes focus a bit better after he blinks hard a few times. "Light." He looks from the Yellow to Denee, to Jezz and back to Denee, his question as obvious as the drip of blood sliding past his ear.

The Yellow examines the wound on Kaden's temple.  She shakes her head and places her hands on his head, one on each side.  "Steady yourself," is her warning before she begins to weave flows of air, water and spirit.  With a practiced ease the Yellow guides the healing flows down and through Kaden's body.  [Aalaryn]

Aalaryn quite honestly stalks over towards Ragnarr and Derosian, her chilled gaze however is on Ragnarr. "What in the Light are you doing?"  She moves to stand infront of Ragnarr, if he's not blocked or moving, her intention is to give Derosian a human shield.

"Confused. Just confused. Do you have any idea what could have happened..light." Denee stares at Kaden, saying nothing more as the Yellow Heals him. He is still wrapped up tightly. The frown that's found it's way to her lips is both worried and disapproving.  [Denee]

Ragnarr cocks his head to the side and sniffs the air, studying Derosion intently, his attention seeming to ignore the circling Aes Sedai, he does take one step to the side to try and stare through Aalaryn to Derosion, "Not half bad if you're playing, lad. Good balance, a disarming stance, opens an opportunity. But it doesn't do any good if you don't attack! And probably not drop your blade unless you've got a knife handy. Pick it up."

Leaning up against a fence post one leg folded over the other, Jezz drags out her dagger and begins to to clean her nails. Her gaze lifts to watch the chaos unfold with a hint of a smile at the edge of her lips.   [Jezz]

Kaden shivers as he is Healed, "I'm all right. Light! I knew nothing good would come of this." The Warder trainee looks toward the Yellow who healed him, "Thank you Aes Sedai. I'm sorry, I didn't realize what I was doing." He looks pleadingly at Denee, "What bloody happened?"

The Yellow releases the weave once the damage is healed.  "Accidents are not a rare occurrence on the Yards."  If the Yellow is shaken she's hiding it well.  [Aalaryn]

Derosian frowns for the first time in a while his eyes glance up warily up at the man but confusion is still most evident on his face.  His eyes go wide at Aalaryn's approach and as she stands between the two his face grows furious.  His eyes lock on Ragnarr, he rocks backwards and at the man's words he pulls out his dagger a small 'shhh' sound occuring as he pulls it from the sheath and eases it into his hand in a reverse grip.  As the man walks around Aalaryn Sedai he lunges forward when he has a clear shot, his dagger sweeping at the mans gut as a feint in a lowered stance, which he springs up from aiming the top of his head at the man's chin.

With a soft sigh, Denee finally frees Kaden, though keeps hold of Saidar and maintains a disapproved expression as she studies him. "You tell me. One would hope you were too dazed to realize who was who. Hmm?" Her lips purse, likely to steel her resolve before adding, "I see how certain distractions affect you."  [Denee]

Once the Yellow has Healed Kaden, she retreats to outside of the ring and away from all the rest of the action going on, though she keeps a wary eye on Kaden, she finds herself closer to Ragnarr and Derosian. -- Jezz is still watching.  [Jezz]

Aalaryn's eyes widen as Derosian moves past her and towards Ragnarr.  "Derosian!"  She makes an attempt to stop the young man but is too slow.

Kaden still looks confused as he is released, "All I know is somebody hit me and everything went hazy for a moment." He glances at Jezz cleaning her nails, "Unless her staff had three ends it wasn't her. I know that. I was watching the other two." Kaden looks around, rubbing the side of his head, "Who hit me?" He then mutters angrily, "Distractions."

Denee isn't yet aware of the chaos that ensues behind her as all of her attention is on Kaden. "The ugly bearded one started throwing things. Are you better n-" Something alerted her to the trouble and she whirls around, a soft gasp escapibg her lips as she sees the glint of live steel.

There's enough Aes Sedai around, Jezz doesnt need to wade into the middle of them to find out what the newest commotion is about, though she does watch, her head lifting when she thinks she notices the glint of live steel.   [Jezz]

Ragnarr grins happily towards Derosion, unphased by the drawn knife as he nods his head in approval speaking even as he moves, "Good!! Perfect, the first right move you've made all day! Dissuade, Feint and strike!" He grins happily, though the grin flickers as Aalaryn attempts to interject. The warder steps forward, past Aalaryn and into Kaden's feint, close enough to let metal screech against metal as knifeblade meets iron rings and thuds to a stop. Derosions true strike, the headbut, lands solidly against Ragnar's own dipped forehead with a loud crack in what must be more than uncomfortable meeting of minds. "Again!"

Kaden looks where Denee is looking and moves to put himself between the knife and the young Aes Sedai scooping up his fallen practice balde. The young trainee mutters, "Good enough. Get behind me." He starts looking for the quickest way out of the Practice Yard.

The Gray frowns, the glow of saidar surrounding her.  She quickly draws out a thick rope of air which she uses to wrap up Derosian snugly, not enough to cause him pain or discomfort but enough to stop him in his tracks. "Gaidin.  What are you attempting to do?" she glares at Ragnarr.  [Aalaryn]

Sighing, Jezz sheathes the dagger and strides up toward Aalaryn with a tap on the shoulder. "Sister, this way, please. This is a training ground, where broken noses are common." she moves away from the group, hoping the Red sister will follow.  [Jezz]

Denee finds herself staring at the back of Kaden's head as he steps in front of het, frowning in confusion while the man begibs backing her away and out if the yard. "It's okay Kaden. There's no real threat.." her voice is placating. Despite her words, she tugs on hid shirt, pulling him further back.

Derosian growls and shakes his head, then finds himself wrapped up tight, he growls again and tries to lunge back at Ragnarr, but his arms are tucked to his side.  It is around this time he looks down and realizes he is being held by an Aes Sedai.  His eyes awaken out of anger and he looks around his face showing surprise his nostrils flaring as he breathes heavily adrenaline still pumping.

Aalaryn turns, listening to Jezz.  She looks back to the Gaidin and the trainee but after seeing Jezz's prowess with a staff decides to take her advice and moves back.

Motioning for the other sisters, she indicates that they should all stand back. "Dont forget to let him go, sister." She nods to Derosian, still wrapped up in Air. -- The Yellow complies, but she remains near, waiting for a break in the training to Heal the young trainee.  [Jezz]

Ragnarr grumbles, gaze sticking to Derosion for the most, though his eyes still flicker around his surroundings on a regular basis, "Teaching. You don't learn, lad. Attack! Stop sitting about like a bump on the log, you're in close, the blade is handy near past the guard. Strike upwards while you're close, in for the armpit where the mail is weakest. Strike!" He reaches out, aiming to flick a hand forward and lightly tap against Derosions forehead, if the weave of air doesn't prevent it.

Kaden moves backward as Denee uses his shirt to steer him. "I think I've had enough practice for today. Supper sounds much better right about now." The trainee keeps his focus though, watching warily.

The Gray sighs, this Gaidin is clearly insane.  "Both of you.  CALM DOWN."  The other Sisters move over by Jezz preparing to leave, however Aalaryn is hesitant.  [Aalaryn]

Derosian's eyes look between the Gray and the large burly man fearfully.  He looks at the closest Sedai instead, Aalaryn Sedia.  "I... I didn't know he was a Gaidan."

"I have to admit, its not a conventional method." Jezz shakes her head and a roll of her eyes, laying a hand on Aalaryn's shoulder, "But you're doing him no favors by interfereing. He needs to learn now in the ... safety.. of the White Tower, or he will die when it means something."  [Jezz]

"Well in hand. Walk me back." That said the Green gives a few more tugs and unless Kaden stops her, they soon disappear around a curve in the path. One final thing can be heard from her, "Yet another reason I dislike crowds."  [Denee]

Ragnarr's grumble grows in pitch to muttered oaths, glaring at Derosion, "Lad, stop having a conversation and attack. When you grow a giant nose and become a master-swordsman, -then- you can talk and fight. Not before. Now attack!" He turns to peer back at Aalaryn, tone firm, if polite, "Aes Sedai would you please not interject yourself on the training field?"

"Violence for the sake of violence is quite different than training." Aalaryn frowns but understands Jezz's point.  She offers a small smile to Derosian before heading off with Jezz and the other Sisters.  She looks as if she's got more to say but she remains quiet.    [Aalaryn]

The Gray releases the ropes of air that bind Derosian.  "Teach him in a manner more suited to your station."  The Gray wears a clearly disgusted expression for Ragnarr's training methods and quickly leaves the yard.  [Aalaryn]

"One would think, but they're men." A small touch of a smile touches the edges of her lips, "Violence is training, when it happens here. Now, if it was in the streets, that would be something altogether different." Jezz replies smoothly, waiting for the gaidin and trainee to resume.  [Jezz]

Derosian looks around fear in his eyes he licks his lips.  Then he slips his dagger into his sheath and walks around Ragnarr giving him wide birth to pick up his practice sword, which he does nimbly enough, his other hand reaching up to rub his face thoughtlessly, before he winces and pulls his hand back from swelling on the left side of his face, where the mug had struck him.  He then places both hands on the practice sword and assumes a defensive stance, prepared now for training.

In true Arafellin nature Aalaryn folds her arms across her chest and sets her jaw, the patented Arafel pout but with Aes Sedai schooling.  Her body language shows she is less than pleased even though her facial expression is unreadable.  The other Sedai (Blue, Brown, and White) also take their leave, the Yellow is the last remaining from the group and she stands with Jezz and Aalaryn.  [Aalaryn]

Ragnarr seems to relish, rather than mind the Gray's reprimand, he lingers, watching her leave the yard and waiting for several seconds afterwards, staring as she leaves, seemingly waiting. When he's waited longer than he has the patience for (not long) he rounds on Derosion, asking in disbelief, "Why didn't you attack? I was staring entirely away from you!"

Jezz leans back up against the fence post, dragging her dagger back out of its sheath and begins to clean her nails, but on the other hand. "In Chachin, it was practically a brawl on the training ground. It was the only place they could safely get out the extra vinegar in a relative safe place. The Border is by no means safe. Otherwise." The Green muses allowed to the Yellow and Red still remaining near her.

Derosian frowns for a split second at what Ragnarr says before lashing out for a blow to the head, the strike not very fluid but the motion shows some practice as if his target doesn't move it seems likely to strike true.  His body is centered with the blade in the middle, his stance prepared to bring the blade down in a second motion to block the natural low blow that an opponent would strike against someone who was striking upwards.

Aalaryn nods, "This I know however.." she leans in to whisper to the Green.

Aalaryn whispers to Jezz, 'I was speaking with the boy earlier.. he confessed to me his father used to beat him for seemingly no reason.  That is the only reason I am concerned.'

Sighing, Jezz leans in and whispers back to the Red.  [Jezz]

Jezz whispers to Aalaryn, 'This is the place where he will be allowed to fight back, encouraged even. To fight his battles will only delay him in his training. He's not a woman to be protected. Let him learn to be a man. This is the place that will beat it out of him, for good or ill. But he's in good hands here. Even if they are.. unconventional.'

Ragnarr seems to cheer up immediately as Derosion strikes, his own arm lifting out to first catch, then shunt aside Derosions blow with the flagon, contents sloshing around inside. The man steps left, keeping derosions blade to his right as he speaks, "Getting better by the moment, and learning prior lessons. What's the definition of a good fight?"

Aalaryn considers Jezz's words.  She considers the Green Sedai at her side to be the expert even if she is older.  "I've just never witnessed training for our Guard until now.  It is quite different than ours."

With a glance to the Red, Jezz smiles thoughtfully, "Then you havent spent a fair enough amount of time down here watching." she grins toothily at the other woman.  [Jezz]

He finds his left side open and flushing with frustration he pulls his arm in, "I've never-" bringing in the bundle close to his body on the left side before twisting his legs so the practice sword naturally would move into the space "been in-" that Ragnarr is in.  Between each movement he spits out his words finally finishing as he pirouettes.  "a fight before."  [Derosian]

"No, most likely not."  Aalaryn looks back to Derosian and Ragnarr for a moment watching the fight? unfold.  "I take it you, and the other Green do?"  [Aalaryn]

Ragnarr blinks at Derosian, asking, "What, don't tell me you grew up on a stedding? What's the definition of a good fight? And put down that sword, you still haven't got a big enough nose."

"Sister, I'm here every morning at the crack of dawn running." Jezz gives the other Aes Sedai a sideways glance, "Sometimes I linger. Most of the time I dont. But my warders, two of them, would train together often enough. Before them, I was down here."  [Jezz]

Aalaryn's expression changes from unreadable to surprised.  "I.. had no idea.  That is very impressive, and practical."

Ragnarr blinks at Derosian, asking, "What, don't tell me you grew up on a stedding? What's the definition of a good fight? And put down that sword, you still haven't got a big enough nose." He grumbles, taking a double step back away from the man to let the blade pass by without touching, and to open enough space to bar all but a lunge.

Derosian frowns at the man the practice blade going to his side with his arms.  He glances inward at his nose a hurtfelt looking skidding across his composure for the slightest second.  "I had brawls with pals and fights with other boys, but nothing real just fists and anger."  He pauses for a moment looking down and away from Ragnarr.  "I don't know what the definition of a good fight is, Sir."

Jezz inclines her head at the compliment, "Thank you. Just something I picked up when I was an Accepted, actually." Or rather, told, if she was going to be a wide-eyed goose around the boys, she might as well be doing something productive. Though she doesnt tell the Red this.

Aalaryn's interest is peaked, now with the questions. "Do many other Green train physically as you do?"  This Red is strange - she's okay with the men in the Tower, she didn't like Elaida, and she's playing nice with the Greens.

"Fists and anger are plenty real, and enough wind up dead from them." He shrugs, inspecting his mug for dents before prying the lid off and taking a swig. "One where you win. To hell with kindness, fairness or anything else. Once you decide to strike, you keep at it till the other fellow is well and truly dead. Then you stab him again for good measure. And maybe a third time for sheer damn spite. It's better to make a bad decision forcefully than make none at all."  [Ragnarr]

"Some." Jezz comments, though she isnt sure of how many actually do. "Though I think it should start with the novices, truth be told. Though with all the chores, they might get enough exercise, but it doesnt hurt to instill good habits from the beginning."   [Jezz]

Derosian frowns at this new bit of advice his eyes moving about clearly thinking on it absorbing it as much as he would a suggestion of when to plant a batch of potatoe eyes.  "So long as the other one dies?  Anything is good?"  He frowns at this.  "Esrahd said if I die then I have failed, it doesn't matter if I get the kill."

Aalaryn takes a moment to consider this.

Ragnarr snickers and shakes his head, "You can't avoid dying, lad. It's bound to happen, and likely sooner rather than later. Your fate, the when of your death, it was decided long ago so you might as well live your life and not worry about dying. Kill your opponents quickly, keep your Sedai alive, and let the rest fall where it may."

Derosian bites his lip thoughtfully before scratching at his chin where a very very small amount of stubble has started to come in.  "Ragnarr who are you bonded to?"  He asked looking at the man for the first time in the face, his expression reflecting curiosity,

The fur-clad man grins mirthfully, answering, "Never ask about bonds, lad. It's rude. Around here, rude is usually bad. At least until you learn how to survive. So, what are you going to do next time you get in a fight?"  [Ragnarr]

Derosian eyes widen at the reprimend.  "I didn't know... Sir.  And next time I get into a fight I'm gonna strike hard and fast and..."  He pauses his facing showing more than its fair share of doubt.  "I will win."

Aalaryn turns to Jezz, "Thank you."  She smiles to the Green.  She'd been watching the exchange between Ragnarr and Derosian while in thought.

Ragnarr smiles cheerfully and dips his head in agreement, "Good. Who wins is often just the fella too stubborn to not win. Now, you need anything else before I go find some pretty little lass to cuddle up with?" He glances back towards ~aalaryn and ~jezz, studying the green while listening to the trainee.

Derosian shifts his feet into a rigid stance and replies. "No sir."

Aalaryn will not be cuddling up with -anyone-, especially not Ragnarr.

Sheathing the dagger, though she might have to keep it out if he thinks -she- would cuddle with the likes of him, Jezz shrugs, "No problem."   [Jezz]

Ragnarr peers at Jezz for a few moments longer before giving Aalaryn a wink and wandering from the practice yard, flagon in hand.

Aalaryn shakes her head at Ragnarr's antics causing the tiny bells in her ribbon to tink softly.  "He's strange."  That said she opts to take a different route back to her room.

The Yellow would Heal Derosian before she left as well. Jezz frowns hard at the way Ragnarr looked at her, wondering what that was all about. Then turns to follow the lout.   [Jezz]

Catching up to Ragnarr, "I couldnt help notice the strange look you gave me. Any reason for it?" The Green asks politely, walking with the mumbling lech.  [Jezz]

Derosian replaces the practice sword in the stand before returning to the wall where his pike is leaning, once again, picking it up and taking watch over the practice yards.
